Xiaomi returns to the load. The Chinese brand has presented this Wednesday the Redmi Note 10 Pro, which succeeds the Redmi Note 9 Pro , one of the most recommended phones throughout the past year. The new model is faster, has a much better screen, and welcomes a 108-megapixel main camera. In other words: it has all the necessary ingredients to become a best seller.
First of all, the Redmi Note 10 Pro has a 6.67-inch screen with AMOLED technology . But the most interesting thing, however, is the refresh rate, which reaches a maximum of 120 Hz. The user experience with this active feature is greatly improved. If you have a special sensitivity to the fluidity of animations -as is my case-, you will greatly appreciate that Xiaomi has decided to integrate it into this model. And, if you add to that the characteristic contrast of the AMOLED panel, the result is more than satisfactory for a product in its category.
Another important change is the processor. Xiaomi has decided to incorporate a Snapdragon 732G into the Redmi Note 10 Pro. It is an old acquaintance in the industry that offers good performance in a wide range of situations and is consistent with the range to which this product belongs.
I expected that Xiaomi would opt for one of the Qualcomm models with 5G connectivity considering that there are SoCs designed for mid-range and low-end mobiles with this connectivity. However, I also do not think it is a particularly serious deficiency considering that it is an inexpensive mobile and, above all, that 5G connectivity, despite everything, continues to fail in most markets.
Welcome to 108 megapixels
On the outside, the phone flees from curves. The screen is completely flat, extends to the edges and is only interrupted by a hole in the center. In general, it is a mobile with fairly straight lines, except for a slight curvature at the back, the aim of which is to better adapt to the palm of the hand.
From behind, the Redmi Note 10 Pro has a uniform color finish that, yes, shows subtle reflections when light falls on it . At the rear, in addition to the usual inscriptions, there is also the photographic module, which houses the following cameras:
- 108 megapixel main sensor , with 2.1 micron pixels (applying nonabining) and an f / 1.9 aperture lens.
- 8 megapixel wide-angle camera , with a 118-degree field of view and an f / 2.2 aperture lens.
- 5 megapixel ‘telemacro’ camera with an f / 2.4 aperture lens.
- 2 megapixel depth sensor with an f / 2.4 aperture lens.
- 16 megapixel main camera with an f / 2.45 aperture lens.
It is remarkable that Xiaomi has decided to mount a sensor with so many megapixels in such an inexpensive phone – although it will not be the only one, after the announcement made in the last hours by Realme. But the important thing in this area, as we have commented on another occasion, is not the number of megapixels, but the use made of them and the rest of the sensor’s attributes.
In the case of the Redmi Note 10 Pro, the results are generally quite satisfactory considering that it is a low-mid-range product. What I mean by this? That, although the sensations are good, we avoid falling into the marketing trap of “it has 108 megapixels, so its camera is better than that of the iPhone 12 Pro Max , which has 12”.
Next to this sensor is a 5 megapixel macro camera that, in general, also offers good results and allows you to capture super striking photos. Of course: it is necessary to firmly stabilize the phone to avoid out-of-focus images.
The telephoto lens is conspicuous by its absence, as is usual in these segments . A camera that, in my opinion, is more essential from a creative point of view than the macro camera. The mobile, at least, allows a zoom of two digital increases taking advantage of the 108 megapixels.
How will the Redmi Note 10 Pro be priced and when will it be available?
The Redmi Note 10 Pro will arrive in Spain in three different memory versions : 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage; 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage; and 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The cheapest will be priced at 279 euros .
As far as distributors are concerned, Xiaomi has not yet revealed which ones it will be available on or the exact dates. We will update the news as soon as this information is revealed.
In the box, by the way, a power adapter is included that allows the 5,020 mAh battery to be recharged to 33 W , which significantly reduces the standby time. A basic clear case is also included to protect the device
